Frequently Asked Questions

Is pregnancy massage safe in the first trimester?

Yes, when performed by a therapist trained in prenatal massage. We use gentle, adapted techniques and avoid certain pressure points traditionally contraindicated in pregnancy. Always inform your therapist of your exact week of pregnancy.

What position will I be in during pregnancy massage?

From the second trimester, you will be in a side-lying position supported by specialised pregnancy pillows and bolsters — designed for maximum comfort and safety as your bump grows.

Can pregnancy massage help with sciatica?

Yes. Gentle massage targeting the piriformis and gluteal muscles can significantly reduce sciatic nerve irritation during pregnancy. For structural sciatica, we may also recommend a consultation with our chiropractor.

When can I have a postnatal massage?

For vaginal deliveries, postnatal massage is typically safe from 2–3 weeks after birth. For caesarean sections, we recommend waiting for clearance from your obstetrician — usually 6 weeks. Always inform your therapist of your birth type and any complications.

Is relaxation massage covered by private health insurance?

Relaxation massage is generally not covered by private health insurance extras. Remedial massage is covered. If your session includes therapeutic work for a specific condition, it may be billable under remedial massage — discuss this with your therapist.

What oils are used during pregnancy massage?

We use pregnancy-safe, unscented carrier oils. Essential oils are generally avoided during pregnancy unless you specifically request them and your therapist confirms they are safe for your stage of pregnancy.
